Lawnmower

Do not mow the lawn with children in the area, and never allow children to ride along on rider mowers.

"There is the question of whether children should be mowing grass at all," says Constance West, M.D., a pediatric ophthalmologist at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. "But whether they're using the mower or power tools, or they're around someone who's using them, it's important that they have eye protection. Protection devices with side shields should be worn around mowers, string-type weed trimmers, drills and even hammers."

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless and potentially deadly gas which is produced as a byproduct of combustion. It is the leading cause of poisoning deaths in the United States, causing 3,500 to 4,000 deaths per year. Approximately two-thirds of these deaths occur among fire victims; the remaining one-third result from accidental carbon monoxide poisonings.

An automobile or lawn mower running in an attached garage or not exhausting properly is a carbon monoxide danger.
