Monday, July 17, 2000CINCINNATI -- Alvin H. Crawford, MD, was honored as the guest presenter at the Louis J. Levy Symposium on Orthopedic Surgery, held Monday, June 19, 2000, at the JPS Health Network Outpatient Clinic in Fort Worth, Texas.
Louis J. Levy, M.D., was an outstanding orthopedic surgeon who served on the staff of John Peter Smith Hospital for more than twenty-five years. In 1990, in recognition of his many years of service, the residents of the Orthopedic Surgery program at John Peter Smith Hospital decided to honor his lifelong contribution to the education of young physicians by instituting a lectureship in his name.
Dr. Levey, one the pioneers in orthopedic surgery, came to Fort Worth in 1942. In addition to his busy private practice, he initially taught surgical residents at the original Harris Hospital Residency Orthopedic Residency Program and later was instrumental in the development of the Orthopedic residency program at John Peter Smith and Affiliated hospitals. Dr. Levy died in 1993.
Dr. Crawford earned his undergraduate degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry at the Tennessee A and I University in 1960, with a minor in Music. He earned his medical degree at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in 1964.
In 1999, Dr. Crawford was named one of the Best Doctors in America. His publications include more than 200 articles and abstracts, six books and 52 chapters.
