Overview
Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center offers many opportunities for volunteering. All volunteer activities support the needs of the patients, families and staff. Playing games with patients, visiting patient rooms, delivering toys and offering breaks to tired parents are just a few of the activities that our volunteers perform. We have volunteers throughout the year ranging in age from 15 to 96.
Cincinnati Children's has volunteers from all backgrounds and walks of life. We work to find a volunteer time that suits your individual schedule. Volunteers assist during the weekdays, evenings and weekends. A weekly commitment of 2-3 hours is required in order to volunteer. Our goal is to make the volunteer experience beneficial for both you and the hospital. With that in mind, if you have recently experienced the death of someone close to you, we ask that you wait 18 months to apply with us. If you are currently seeking employment, please wait until after you are established in your new position to apply.
Volunteer Opportunities
- Playing with children in activity centers
- Bringing toys and activities to outpatient clinics
- Reading to patients
- Visiting patient rooms
- Offering breaks to parents
- Assisting in specialty departments such as Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Pathology or Pharmacy
- Helping with families and children in the Emergency Department
- Clerical
- Sewing room
- Working at neighborhood locations (Drake PT- Aquatic opportunities)
Medical Requirements
Working closely with patients at Cincinnati Children's requires thorough medical screening for the safety of everyone involved. All necessary medical information will be discussed during the interview. These requirements, which will be offered at no cost to you, include but are not limited to:
- Copy of 2 MMR vaccines OR proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps and Rubella
- Results of 2 TB tests within the past six months
- Proof of 2 Varicella vaccinations (if you have not previously had chickenpox)
