Commitment to Training
The Division of Developmental Biology at Children's Hospital Research Foundation of Cincinnati is dedicated to providing high quality training opportunities that will both enhance ongoing research within the medical center and stimulate further study in this area by future generations of researchers.
This is being accomplished by offering strong pre- and post-doctoral training programs in contemporary developmental biology, training young physicians and scientists to use the most modern tools of molecular and cellular biology, and providing research opportunities for undergraduate and medical students in order to encourage careers in academic fields, especially developmental biology and pediatrics.
During the past year, faculty members of the division have continued to supervise the research training of young scientists, including 22 postdoctoral fellows, 12 predoctoral students in the Molecular and Developmental Biology Graduate Program, one graduate student from the neuroscience program, 18 college undergraduate students in the division's Summer Student Program, and 3 high school students (one from the NIH NCRRK-12 Science Education Program).
In addition, the faculty within the Division continue to teach in courses offered at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and the University of Cincinnati. During the past year, these included lectures in Advanced Molecular Genetics I, Developmental Biology, Ethics in Research, Molecular Biology of the Cell II, Neuroscience, and Teratology. The faculty also organized courses in Developmental Biology, Ethics in Research, and Teratology, as well as the Department of Pediatrics' New Faculty Orientation, and The "Cutting Edge" Seminar Series. The division continues to coordinate the Children's Hospital Research Foundation and Molecular and Developmental Biology Graduate Program Seminar Series.
