Joan and Bob McCoy
Joan McCoy is one of Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center's most cherished volunteers. For more than 30 years, she has given her time and talent as a member of the Junior Cooperative Society, the auxiliary that runs the hospital gift shop. Joan has held many positions in the shop and has served many roles on the auxiliary board. She continues to volunteer as a buyer in the shop, which is now a half million dollar a year operation, with all profits donated to the hospital.
Joan's passion for Cincinnati Children's also motivates her to give in other ways. As president of The Bremer Foundation, a family foundation established by her late aunt and uncle, she has made annual gifts for many years, most recently to support the Mayerson Center for Safe and Healthy Children. This Bremer Foundation gift has helped establish a visiting lecture series on preventing child abuse. Joan and her husband, Bob, also provide generous personal contributions in support of Cincinnati Children's. One of their recent gifts was designated to sponsor one of the stained glass windows in the
hospital's new chapel.
As a result of their generosity, the McCoys are members of the Children's Circle of Care and try to attend the annual North American Leadership Conference. They enjoy taking the special tours that are offered, and Joan makes a point of visiting the gift shop at the host hospital whenever possible.
What has kept Joan and Bob McCoy so dedicated to Cincinnati Children's over so many years? Their answer is simple: "We see the children who come to the hospital and we want to make a difference in their lives. Being involved is very worthwhile."
