Charitable Patient Care
$154.9 million
Includes free or discounted services for those unable to pay. The benefit amount includes the shortfall from Medicaid reimbursement, based on the cost of providing the care to Medicaid recipients (after accounting for support from the Hamilton County Health and Hospitalization Levy and the Hospital Care Assurance Program) and the loss from the cost of providing charity care.
Internally Supported Medical Research
$89.0 million
This category includes laboratory science and applied research costs that include facilities, equipment and research not covered by outside public and private grants and industry support.
Subsidized Health Programs
$19.0 million
These are clinical services provided despite a financial loss to the organization. Financial loss is measured after removing losses associated with bad debt, charity care, Medicaid and other means-tested government programs. Mental health, dental and primary care services are among these programs.
Internally Subsidized Graduate Medical Education
$13.6 million
The amount is the cost of providing education to prospective physicians less federal support of our graduate medical education program.
Charitable Community Outreach Programs
$7.7 million
Programs that provide services/support directly to the community or to nonprofit organizations with similar missions of service. The benefit amount is the net support provided at cost by Cincinnati Children’s after all grants, fees and other funding sources are accounted for.
