Bio

Philip D. Walson, MD, was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., but grew up in Los Angeles, Calif. He received his BS in Chemistry with honors from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1965, and his MD from the University of California, San Francisco, in 1969.

Dr. Walson brings many years of experience in clinical trials. For nearly two decades before coming to Cincinnati Children's, he was Professor of Pediatrics, Pharmacology and Pharmacy at The Ohio State University and Chief of Clinical Pharmacology/Toxicology and Medical Director of the TDM/Toxicology Laboratory, which he started, at Children's Hospital in Columbus. He was also principal investigator of the NICHD (National Institutute of Child Health and Human Development) supported Pediatric Pharmacology Research Unit (PPRU) and the NIMH (National Institute of Mental Health) supported Research Unit of Pediatric Psychopharmacology (RUPP) in Columbus.

Dr. Walson is the author of more than 100 publications. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics' Committee on Drugs and the USP Nomenclature Committee. He was co-founder, Medical Director and Chief Scientific Officer of Pediatric Clinical Trials International, a subsidiary of Children's Hospital, Columbus, dedicated to development of pediatric therapeutics. Dr. Walson is board certified in pediatrics, clinical pharmacology, and medical toxicology. He is editor of Current Therapeutics, past editor of Current Therapeutic Research, and past president of the International Association of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology.
