"I volunteered for the Family Advisory Council because I believe families are key stakeholders who can contribute, as partners, to the success of Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center," said Amy Engler, who is the webmaster and an employee in the Marketing and Communications Department.

"The Family Advisory Council is an important initiative for the medical center. Learning from the parents and staff serving on the council, I've gained perspectives that will go with me through life," Amy said.

A member of the Family Advisory Council's Web Committee, Amy works with other members to document, promote and facilitate Family Advisory Council accomplishments and projects on the Cincinnati Children's web site.

"Our goal in creating content for the medical center's web site is to provide information to a worldwide audience and show family-centered care is part of the culture at Cincinnati Children's," Amy said. "Our web site can be a resource for other institutions establishing family advisory councils or adopting family-centered care initiatives."

As a Family Advisory Council member, Amy said she has "enjoyed meeting people and seeing the enthusiasm and creativity of medical center staff in integrating family-centered care principles into their work."

Amy has been a member of several Family Advisory Council committees, including the Family Faculty Committee, Family Advisory Member Selection Committee and the Family Advisory Council Billing Task Force.

"We are so fortunate to have a world-renowned children's hospital in Cincinnati. I'm so happy and proud to be part of it," Amy said. "It's been an honor and privilege to serve on the medical center's first formal Family Advisory Council."

During January 2005, Amy was honored as the first staff recipient of the "The Family Advisory Council Award of Excellence in Family-Centered Care."
