In October 1989, Barbara's son Ryan was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis / JRA. Since then, he has been a patient in several services at Cincinnati Children's, including:
"Since we have been to so many departments and have experienced so much in 14 years at the hospital, I think I can help from a family's perspective," Barbara said. "The hospital is great, but there is always room for improvement and growth.
"I want to make a difference at the hospital," Barbara said. "We have had very positive experiences throughout the years, in spite of a negative situation.
"Cincinnati Children's Hospital has worked with us as a 'team' to ensure the best care possible for Ryan. I want it to be that way for other families as well," Barbara said. "Having an ill child is scary, frustrating, draining, etc. If your hospital experience is positive, it helps lessen that."
