Rebecca Phillips, PhD, Vice President, Education and Training, joined the Family Advisory Council during April 2006.

"I joined Cincinnati Children's in August 2004 to ensure an integrated learning system," Rebecca said. "Recent strategic organizational improvements include creation of an Education Committee of the Board of Trustees and the Education and Training Department."

Since her arrival, Rebecca has overseen strategic developments including:

  • leader and executive development and
  • infrastructure improvements
    • the Enterprise Learning Management system for registration and recording of all Cincinnati Children's delivered training (instructor-led and web-based or eLearning) and
    • eLearning standards, tools, and authoring systems

Rebecca also serves on the Chronic Care, Library, and Multicultural and Diversity committees at Cincinnati Children's.

Rebecca is a Board of Directors member of the American Society for Training and Development / ASTD. ASTD is a 55,000-member international organization that focuses on exceptional learning and performance.

Rebecca joined the Family Advisory Council to learn from patients and families and to make better connections among programs and services. These objectives are intended to add coherence and improve the integration and impact that education programs and services have on Cincinnati Children's families.

Rebecca said she hopes to help identify the learning needs of patients and families so Cincinnati Children's can improve its offerings, especially those relative to safety, managing care, and individual patient needs. "Members are closest to the children we serve; we are their voices. That perspective keeps us on track."

Rebecca said. "I am very interested in acutely demonstrating that the programs and learning services are making a difference to patients, families -- to anyone who uses Cincinnati Children's for learning."

Rebecca and her husband Jerry Wise moved to Cincinnati from Santa Fe, New Mexico. They have one daughter, Julia, who is a senior in college.
