Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center recommends the following resources for more information related to family-centered care at our hospital.
Family Resource Center
Family Resource Center staff at Cincinnati Children's are available to assist parents and medical professionals in finding information about a child's health condition.
The Family Resource Center offers facilities where parents can:
- Relax
- Access the Internet and email
- Obtain assistance with building a CarePage, a personal web site for families to keep relatives and friends updated about a child's condition
- Obtain assistance with parent-to-parent networking
- Access resources for the Hispanic community
Chronic Condition Clinical Portals
The Chronic Condition Clinical Portals at Cincinnati Children's help patients and parents manage a child's condition by providing information parents need to be active, informed members of the health care team. The portals are designed to help improve the quality of patient care by providing accurate, up-to-date medical record information, such as lab results, medications, procedures, admissions and demographics. They also include a "Question and Answer" section to allow patients and family members to ask non-urgent questions.
Family Advisory Council
At Cincinnati Children's, the Family Advisory Council participates in hospital-wide decision-making processes and is a valuable resource for educating families and employees about family-centered care.
Institute for Family-Centered Care
The Institute for Family-Centered Care, a nonprofit organization, provides essential leadership to advance the understanding and practice of family-centered care. On its web site, the institute features some of the family-centered care initiatives at Cincinnati Children's.
"Redefining Bed-Side Manner," Pediatric Grand Rounds Video
The "Redefining Bedside Manner" pediatric grand rounds video was presented by Family Advisory Council member Thomas Kimball, MD, and former Family Advisory Council Parent Coordinator Amy Clawson. The streamed video is available online in dial-up and broadband speeds.
Special Needs Resource Directory
The Special Needs Resource Directory is a comprehensive online guide to assist parents, caregivers and health care providers find information, resources and services to support children with chronic health care needs. Created by the Center for Infants and Children with Special Needs at Cincinnati Children's, the directory provides local, regional and national web site links to help:
- Obtain information on specific disabilities
- Access resources to support family-centered care including including financial, health care, education, transition, recreation, mental health and day care / respite needs
- Identify strategies to help families advocate for their child
- Develop community connections for ongoing support
