Overview

At Cincinnati Children's, the care that you and your child receive will be patient- and family-centered.

At Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, we strive to provide each family with care that is patient- and family-centered. This means that we provide care that is respectful of and responsive to each family's individual preferences, needs and values, and we ensure that their values guide all clinical decisions.

Family-centered rounds are an important part of the care patients and families receive at Cincinnati Children's. Many caregivers are involved in each patient's care. It is important that all caregivers share information so they can work effectively as a team. This sharing takes place during family-centered rounds.

Family-Centered rounds

  • Include family, nurses, physicians and other allied health personnel relevant to the particular patient's care
  • Involve the family in the decision-making process and recognize the family is the focus of care
  • Include opportunities for teaching both the family and health care learners
  • Facilitate the use of evidence-based medicine
  • Improve the process of care
  • Improve satisfaction with care delivery
  • Provide families with choices, including not to participate in rounds or to move rounds somewhere besides their child's room
