Introduction
Every setting is unique, so we don't know the best way for you to implement family-centered rounds in your hospital, but we're happy to share what we've learned from our own experiences at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center from teaching family-centered rounds at conferences and workshops.
We have found that when physicians, nurses and allied health professionals discuss family-centered rounds together, they are more likely to implement them. Understanding everyone's view of rounds will be essential when you develop a plan for introducing family-centered rounds.
We wish we could conduct a workshop for each of you to have you visit our hospital to observe how we conduct family-centered rounds. Since that's not possible, we have created an online facilitator guide and a series of video vignettes. We hope these tools help you lead a successful learning experience at your hospital and generate rich discussion about rounds among your colleagues.
Before we gather a group to learn together, please take a little time to prepare. Go to the section on "Preparation for Family-Centered Rounds Workshop" for our suggestions on how to prepare.
We appreciate your interest in family-centered rounds and hope that you find the videos and information on the family-centered rounds web site helpful.
