Cincinnati Children's Acquires Private Duty Nursing Agency
CINCINNATI -- Children's Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati has acquired Pediatric Nursing Care (PNC), a local, private-duty nursing agency. With this acquisition, Children's Hospital Home Health Care becomes a full-service home health agency.
PNC's 125 employees will remain under the direction of Kathy Droppelman, R.N. The name of the agency will change to Pediatric Nursing Care of Children's Hospital Medical Center.
The private duty nurses, either R.N.s or L.P.N.s, primarily will provide shifts of at least eight hours of one-on-one, skilled nursing care in the home to children with special needs, such as those with tracheostomies or who are on ventilators. They also will provide respite care to supplement parental care in the home, and they will provide care for terminally ill children in the home who need 24-hour monitoring.
In addition, several local school districts contract with PNC for school nursing support, which is "an area of community health care for children that we hope to further develop at some point," says Lisa Richter Beck, R.N., director of home health care at Cincinnati Children's.
Children's Hospital Home Health Care is a certified home health agency and licensed hospice providing skilled nursing services, rehabilitation therapy, durable medical equipment and infusion therapy to infants, children and young adults. Private duty care is the only service Children's Hospital Home Health Care had not provided.
The pediatric specialty staff has extensive experience in the care of children with a wide range of illnesses and injuries and in providing emotional support. Services are provided to patients within a 50-mile radius, including northern Kentucky and southeastern Indiana.
