Alvin Crawford, M.D., Elected Neurofibromatosis Scholar for the Year 2000

CINCINNATI -- Alvin Crawford, M.D., director of the Pediatric Orthopaedics Department at Children's Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati, has been elected the Neurofibromatosis Inc., Scholar for the Year 2000. Dr. Crawford was elected to this prestigious post at the NF Inc., annual meeting in San Diego.

NF Inc., is a nonprofit organization that provides support and services to NF families and works closely with clinical and research professionals who specialize in the treatment of NF.

Neurofibromatosis is a genetic disease characterized by multiple skin tumors and sometimes physical deformity. Dr. Crawford is considered the leading orthopaedic expert on neurofibromatosis in children, a field in which he has achieved internationally renowned status. He has been recognized for his expertise in bone abnormalities caused by NF-1, a distinct form of the disease.

The NF Inc., Scholar Award was established in 1994 to promote the organization's mission, which is to enhance awareness of the neurofibromatoses and related disorders among medical and health care professionals. The award is for the sponsorship of a presentation at a professional meeting or other educational venue of Dr. Crawford's choice.

Jason Shaft, the NF Inc., ambassador for NF and a patient of Dr. Crawford, will present the award to Dr. Crawford at a later date.
