Cris Collinsworth Foundation Announces Major Sponsors for Charity Golf Tournament
CINCINNATI -- The Cris Collinsworth Foundation announced today an exciting new event partnership between Fifth Third Bank, the Cris Collinsworth Foundation and FOX 19-WXIX-TV to host a charity golf tournament. The Fifth Third Bank Celebrity Classic golf tournament presented by FOX 19 will be held July 15-16, at Kings Island Golf Center. The tournament's beneficiary will be Children's Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati.
Two-time Emmy award winner Cris Collinsworth and baseball Hall of Fame Honoree Johnny Bench will host the event.
"We are proud of the sporting concept we have designed for this charity event," Collinsworth said, "and the team of sponsors we have already put together is unparalleled. We hope to have many more sponsors join us in this effort to support Children's Hospital."
Other major sponsors include Pomeroy Computer Resources, the Business Courier and American Airlines.
Confirmed celebrities include Cris Collinsworth, Johnny Bench, Terry Bradshaw, Boomer Esiason, James Brown, Sam Wyche, Paul Horning, Maury Povich, and Bengals coaches Bruce Coslet, Kenny Anderson and Dick LeBeau.
This unique sporting event is an area-wide golf championship designed to crown a Cincinnati Golf Champion. It is a Celebrity Pro Am, consisting of the area's top professional and amateur golfers paired with sports and FOX network celebrities and sponsors.
The Greater Cincinnati Golf Association, a partner in the development of this tournament, will invite amateur golfers from the area. The pro golfers will be selected from local golf courses in the tri-state area.
WXIX FOX 19 will present the tournament in a live broadcast both days of the event.
"FOX 19 has adopted the tournament as our signature charity," said Vice President General Manager Jon Lawhead. We're proud to be associated with Cris and Fifth Third Bank and pleased that a fine hospital like Children's will benefit from our efforts."
The weekend festivities include appearances by national celebrities and other stars from television and FOX Network programming. Several meet-and-greet opportunities and other entertainment performances are being planned as part of the weekend activities. The general public is invited to attend for a nominal admission fee.
"This event will be -- bar none -- the most exciting tournament of the year!" said Fifth Third Bank President and CEO George A. Schaefer Jr. "We are honored to help bring such quality programming to the Greater Cincinnati area, and as a member of the board of Children's Hospital Medical Center, I am thrilled that the proceeds will benefit such a worthwhile organization."
