September 25, 2000 - Second Annual Circle of Life Awards Dinner to Honor Manuel D. Mayerson and Promote Potential beyond Brain Injury Among Adolescents and Young Adults

CINCINNATI -- The Second Annual Circle of Life Awards Dinner, on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at 6 p.m.. at the Omni Netherland, will honor Manuel D. Mayerson for his work assisting children and adults with disabilities at Children's Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati and throughout the community.

Brain injury is the most frequent cause of disability and death among children and adolescents in the United States. Each year, over 1 million children sustain brain injuries with more than 30,000 suffering serious permanent disability.

The Annual Awards Dinner focuses on alerting the community of the severity of brain injury while honoring leaders like Manuel D. Mayerson for their work as advocates for programs for young people with disabilities. Mayerson has been instrumental in establishing programs like the Inclusion Network and other important human service programs to help people succeed despite limiting conditions.

Funds raised through the Annual Awards Dinner will support the growing needs of Children's Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati Pediatric Rehabilitation Division, especially for children and adolescents with brain injury.

With the proceeds from the First Annual Circle of Life Awards Dinner last year, Children's Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati was able to hire a school transition counselor to aid children with brain injury in their return to the classroom.

Proceeds from the Second Annual Awards Dinner will be used to open vocational education programs and opportunities to more adolescents and young adults with brain injury, with the goal of allowing these individuals to be a productive part of the workforce.

Seating for the dinner is $125 per person or $1,000 per table. For more information or to make a reservation, please contact the Children's Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati Pediatric Rehabilitation Division, 513-636-7371.

The Circle of Life is a community organization that supports Children's Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati Pediatric Rehabilitation Division to enhance the quality of life for children, young adults and families whose lives have been changed by brain injury.
