Nationwide Insurance Presents $5,000 to Cincinnati Children's to Support a Family Focused Child Safety Project
CINCINNATI -- Nationwide Insurance Cincinnati Urban Sales & Service Center is presenting a contribution of $5,000 to the Youth Injury Prevention Initiative (YIPI) at Children's Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati on Wednesday, March 28, 20001, at 1 p.m. The money will be used to support a family focused child safety theatrical production done by Theatre IV Art Reach.
"The dramatic play entitled 'Give Us This Day' focuses on the dangers of ignoring injury prevention techniques," said Victor Garcia, M.D., medical director of Trauma Services at Cincinnati Children's. "We hope the production will open the eyes of our community to the importance of child safety and provide real life experiences that focus on the value of prevention."
"This partnership is a perfect fit for Nationwide Insurance and the things we are doing through our outreach efforts in the community," said Ronald Hickson, manager of the Cincinnati Urban Sales & Service Center.
"Since the opening of our office last year, we have communicated the message of safety to this community through various projects and initiatives. This will do great things to enhance that commitment and involve our office in a prevention initiative that will do great things for the future of our children."
The rate of pedestrian injuries is disproportionately higher among African American children in the Greater Cincinnati area. Statistics indicate that more than half the children injured in pedestrian injuries in Hamilton Country were African American.
The church-based program targets a population of 3,500 African American children and young adults. A series of specially designed educational and social interventions aim to provide families and their children with the understanding and the tolls needed to undertake necessary injury prevention measures.
In conjunction with this partnership, Nationwide Insurance has a marketing strategy that features participation at festivals, fairs, educational seminars and other community events. Nationwide is committed to diversity and community involvement and is fully committed to serving the insurance needs of urban consumers. Nationwide has made significant financial investments and grants to community development organizations fostering neighborhood revitalization and home ownership.
YIPI has been designed as a pilot project and results of any changes in attitude or safety behaviors will be monitored and evaluated through a formal research tool, so as to promote expansion of the program.
