Cincinnati Children's to Offer Pediatric Rehabilitation Services at Drake Center - A Collaborative Effort to Improve Continuity of Care

CINCINNATI -- Children's Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati has partnered with Drake Center in an innovative collaboration to expand leading-edge pediatric rehabilitation services in the Cincinnati area.

Children's Outpatient Services - Drake Center will allow therapists to offer more intensive outpatient occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech pathology services in a new state-of-the-art environment, created exclusively for pediatric rehabilitation.

Children's Outpatient Services - Drake Center plans to offer services that will allow patients to be treated in both individual and group settings, resulting in improved continuity of care from the inpatient stay to reintegration into the community. Pediatric aquatic therapy will also be offered for the first time by Cincinnati Children's in conjunction with Drake Center.

This partnership will allow Cincinnati Children's and Drake Center to collaborate to offer a continuum of care that transitions teens into an adult rehabilitation program. Children with many conditions will benefit from this partnership, including but not limited to brain injury, spinal cord injury, developmental delays or disabilities, and musculoskeletal and neurological impairment. Cincinnati Children's and Drake Center will also collaborate on continuing education activities.

"This is an exciting opportunity to ensure that the area's most advanced care reaches every child who needs it," said James M. Anderson, president and CEO of Cincinnati Children's. "By bringing Cincinnati Children's pediatric specialists to Drake Center, we can offer families comprehensive rehabilitation in one location."

Children's Outpatient Services - Drake Center, expected to begin seeing patients in September 2001, complements the existing 7 Cincinnati Children's Outpatient Services locations throughout the Greater Cincinnati Area.

"Drake Center is pleased to partner with Cincinnati Children's to provide these important rehabilitative services to children in our community," said Roberta Bradford, Drake Center president & CEO. " We have been known as a provider of adult health care services for many years. This relationship is an effective way to extend our therapeutic facilities to the pediatric population."
