Internationally Recognized Physicians Join Cincinnati Children's

CINCINNATI -- Two internationally recognized physician/researchers have joined the division of Hematology/Oncology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

John Perentesis, MD, is director of the division's Oncology Program. In this capacity, he will lead the division's care of patients with cancer and the development of novel therapeutic agents to treat childhood cancers. Dr. Perentesis is internationally recognized for his expertise in experimental therapeutics, phase I agents, and acute myeloid leukemia.

Dr. Perentesis comes to Cincinnati Children's from the University of Minnesota Cancer Center, where he was director of the Pediatric Developmental Therapeutics/Advanced Therapies Program. He earned a medical degree at the University of Michigan and completed his pediatric residency and hematology/oncology and blood and marrow transplant fellowship training at the University of Minnesota.

Stella Davies, MB.BS, PhD, MRCP, is interim director of the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program at Cincinnati Children's. She also will lead a group of medical researchers in the study of genetic control over responses to chemotherapeutic agents in children. Dr. Davies is internationally recognized as an expert in hematopoetic stem cell transplantation and acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Dr. Davies was previously medical director of the Unrelated Donor Blood and Marrow Transplantation Program at the University of Minnesota. She earned a medical degree at the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in England and completed clinical and fellowship training at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle General Hospital, and Great Ormond St. Hospital.
