Cincinnati Children's Receives Donation

From Turfway Park Jockeys

CINCINNATI -- Turfway Park jockeys and retired Hall of Fame rider Steve Cauthen, winner of the 1978 Triple Crown aboard Affirmed, will bring toys donated through Toys for Tots and Turfway Park to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center on Tues., Feb. 12 at 1 pm.

More than 50 toys were collected during Turfway Park's Holiday Meet. The Florence, Kentucky track donated an additional $300, which was used to purchase more toys for the children. During the 1 ½-hour visit, a toy will be given to every child the jockeys visit in the Division of Hematology/Oncology and others will be left for patients not present during the event.

Cincinnati Children's Hematology/Oncology division is distinguished in patient care, teaching and researching new ways to improve the health of patients. Sixteen full-time faculty members and two professors emeriti participate in the care and activities of the Blood and Marrow Transplant Center, Hemophilia Treatment Center, Pediatric Oncology Center, Sickle Cell Center and Comprehensive Immunodeficiency Clinic and Histiocytosis Program. In these centers, more than 2,500 children and adolescents are cared for annually.

In addition to passing out the gifts, the riders will be taking pictures and signing autographs for their young fans in Hematology/Oncology. The jockeys planning to be in attendance are William Troilo, Rhonda Collins, Jennifer Bramblett, Jose Martinez Jr., J.J. Sunseri, Beth Butler and Anthony Esposito.

Turfway Park is currently in the midst of its Winter-Spring Meet, which continues through Thurs., April 4. The highlight of the racing season will be the 31st running of the $500,000 Lane's End Spiral Stakes (Grade II) on Sat., March 23.
