Cincinnati Children's Dedicates Center for Clinical Research
CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center dedicated the Cincinnati Center for Clinical Research (CCCR).
Cincinnati Children's established the CCCR to conduct research studies that will improve the health outcomes of children and adults and to document the safety and effectiveness of new therapies. The 53,500-square-foot CCCR is located at 619 Oak Street, on the second floor of the Oak South Building (formerly Bethesda Oak Hospital) on the Cincinnati Children's Oak campus.
The CCCR can accommodate clinical research studies for children and adults and includes an outpatient clinic, extended stay unit, on-site investigational pharmacy and a Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) Lab.
The outpatient unit includes 20 exam rooms and is used for a variety of studies in newborns, children and adults. The extended-stay unit is primarily for adults and includes 18 patient rooms, on-site pharmacy and recreational areas. Studies on the extended stay unit may be conducted by Cincinnati Children's researchers, investigators from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, or other clinical research organizations.
Cincinnati Children's is involved in studies of adults because some studies important for pediatric care must first be carried out in adults. In addition, some adults have diseases that originate in childhood.
The GLP lab provides a wide variety of specialized bioanalytical and immunological techniques for assessing the safety and effectiveness of biopharmaceuticals. The lab also allows researchers to evaluate vaccines and to develop assays that test drugs to ensure they work.
