Cincinnati Children's Earns Accreditation in Ultrasound

CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in ultrasound as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

ACR accreditation is intended to provide a high level of confidence for patients, referring physicians and managed care organizations that accredited facilities provide the highest-quality patient care. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of personnel, adequacy of facility equipment, image quality and quality control measures.

The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic / interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health services.

The ultrasound subsection in the Department of Radiology at Cincinnati Children's performed 13,000 examinations in fiscal year 2002. Commonly performed examinations include renal studies, abdominal studies, pelvic exams, neonatal head studies, hip studies and imaging of liver and kidney transplants.
