James M. Anderson Appointed To Third Frontier Advisory Board
Ohio Business and Education Leaders Named to Further Third Frontier Mission
Wednesday, June 04, 2003CINCINNATI -- James M. Anderson, president and chief executive officer of Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, has been appointed by Ohio Governor Bob Taft to the new Third Frontier Advisory Board.
"The Third Frontier Advisory Board will be focused on helping create new high-paying jobs, recruit world-class research and entrepreneurial talent to Ohio, and support applied research to help companies move new products to market," says Governor Taft. "We have recruited some of Ohio's best business and education leaders to the Board to ensure Ohio can compete as a major player in the knowledge economy of the 21st century."
The Third Frontier Advisory Board was created by H.B. 675, which was signed by Governor Taft on December 13, 2002. The Advisory Board will provide advice and guidance to the Third Frontier Commission on how best to spend funds from the $1.6 billion Third Frontier Project to create more high paying jobs. The membership of the Third Frontier Commission was established by H.B. 675 and consists of the director of the Ohio Department of Development, the chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents and the science and technology advisor to the governor.
The 16-member Advisory Board will advise on strategic planning and general management and coordination of programs administered by the Commission, including the Third Frontier Action Fund, Biomedical Research & Technology Transfer Trust Fund and the Wright Capital Fund.
The Advisory Board members were selected for their knowledge of and experience in science and technology matters affecting the state. Of the 16 members, 14 are appointed by the Governor, one is appointed by the speaker of the House of Representatives, and one is appointed by the president of the Senate. Members are compensated for expenses only.
As a member of the Advisory Board, Anderson will represent university and non-profit interests in Ohio's economic development. He will serve a term ending March 14, 2006.
Anderson was named president and chief executive officer of Cincinnati Children's in 1996 after nearly 20 years of service to the Cincinnati Children's Board of Trustees. His appointment followed four years as chairman of the board, as well as involvement on the executive, finance, investment and compensation committees, and serving as chairman of the Personnel and Nominating committees.
