"Cares 4 Kids" Radiothon to Benefit Cincinnati Children's

Loose Change Adds to This Year's Total

From Thursday, April 1 through Sunday, April 4, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center will be conducting its second annual "Cares 4 Kids" Radiothon to raise money for Cincinnati Children's and the children and families it serves. This event is similar to a telethon but will be broadcast live, on WARM98- 98.5 FM radio, from the lobby of Location B at Cincinnati Children's main campus.

A bank of 25 phones will be staffed by employees and volunteers as well as corporate and community volunteers from 6 am to 7 pm Thursday and Friday; 9 am to 6 pm Saturday, and 10 am to 6 pm Sunday. In addition, dozens of families who receive care at Cincinnati Children's will tell their stories live during the Radiothon.

"The Radiothon is a great way to give to our hospital and make a dramatic impact on children's lives," says Ron DeMarco, director of direct marketing in the department of Development at Cincinnati Children's. "Every penny of the dollars raised will come to Cincinnati Children's to pay for life-saving equipment, patient care and breakthrough research."

New this year is the addition of "change bandit" volunteers. During March and April, volunteers went to schools, offices and neighborhoods to collect coins. The money raised will be a part of this year's Radiothon total.

"We'd like to continue what's been an amazing couple of months already. We started the 'change bandits' program with a goal of having 100 'bandits' sign up over the course of two days," says Steven Terrell, the Cincinnati Children's donor relations officer for Children's Miracle Network. "We've been thrilled at what has actually occurred -- 355 requests for collection bags. Requests came in from all over the tri-state."

Cincinnati Children's is partnering in this year's WARM98-FM Radiothon and the new change drive with the Children's Miracle Network and Foresters, a financial services organization inspired by helping children. Children's Miracle Network and Foresters sponsor radiothons throughout the nation to raise money locally to help children at affiliated Children's Miracle Network children's hospitals.

Children's Miracle Network consists of 170 children's hospitals providing state-of-the-art life saving care 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Each year, Children's Miracle Network hospitals treat 17 million children for every disease and condition imaginable including cancer, pediatric AIDS, muscular dystrophy, sickle cell anemia, birth defects, asthma and accidents. One hundred percent of all locally raised funds benefit children treated at their local Children's Miracle Network hospital.
