Leadership in Quality Improvement
- Leading a national collaborative to reduce cases of central venous catheter-associated bloodstream infections in pediatric ICUs
- Sustained a nearly 90 percent reduction of ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) cases in our pediatric, cardiac and newborn ICUs over the past two years
- Exceeded expectations with work to reduce preventable surgical site infections and have sustained a 51percent reduction rate since the initiative began in 2005

International Reach
- Served patients from 48 countries and all 50 states since 2006
- Established collaborative teaching, clinical and quality arrangements with King Fahad Medical City Children's Hospital in Saudi Arabia, and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London, as well as formal exchange programs with hospitals in Europe, the Middle East, China and India

Serving the Community
- Expanding our reach in northern Cincinnati with Liberty Campus facility opening in August 2008; will increase access to emergency services, outpatient surgery, pediatric subspecialty clinics and radiology services
- Fielded nearly 40,000 calls last year to the Psychiatric Intake Response Center, a 24-hour phone service for information and referrals
- Maintain 15 patient care sites throughout the region
- Operate the only Level I pediatric trauma center in the Tristate area, and the only pediatric cardiac intensive care unit in the region

Cutting-Edge Information Technology
- Ranked in the top 250 Innovators by Information Week for the second year in a row
- Launched implementation of Epic, a comprehensive information system and electronic medical record that will integrate clinical, research and business functions, replacing at least 30 other systems throughout the medical center
- Host web portals for patients with cystic fibrosis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, liver transplants and kidney transplants that allow families to view lab results, track progress and communicate with caregivers
- Launched implementation of an innovative research data warehouse which will allow investigators to mine de-identified clinical data to accelerate research and clinical improvement

Highlights of 2007
- Brain suite opens. Gives neurosurgeons access to the world's most sophisticated technology for mapping a precise pathway through the brain.
- Hybrid cardiac catheterization lab opens. Makes it possible to combine complex heart catheterization and open heart surgery in one procedure.
- New research tower opens. Increases research space to nearly 1 million square feet, making Cincinnati Children's one of the largest pediatric research programs in the country.
