James Anderson, CEO and president.James M. Anderson, President and Chief Executive Officer

After nearly 20 years of service to the Board of Trustees, Anderson was appointed president and CEO of Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. His appointment followed four years as chairman of the board, as well as involvement on the Executive, Finance, Investment and Compensation committees, and serving as chairman of the Personnel and Nominating committees.

Before joining Cincinnati Children's, Anderson spent 23 years at the law firm of Taft, Stettinius & Hollister, where he was a partner in the general corporate department. For four years, he was president of U.S. operations and director of Xomox Corporation, a manufacturer of specialty process controls.

After receiving a bachelor's degree at Yale University, Anderson earned a law degree at Vanderbilt School of Law. He then served in the U.S. Army and spent one year as an officer in Vietnam with the First Infantry Division, becoming a decorated veteran.

Anderson most recently became the first leader of a children's hospital to be called on at the federal level to work on the future of the federal Medicaid programs and the only leader of a children's hospital appointed to the national Medicaid Commission. Additionally, he was appointed Chairman of the Cincinnati Branch of the Federal Reserve Board in 2005 and has been listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Finance and Industry and Best Lawyers in America.

Dr. Michael Farrell, chief of staff.

Michael K. Farrell, MD,
Chief of Staff, Professor of Pediatrics and Associate Director of the Department of Pediatrics

A noted pediatric gastroenterologist, Dr. Michael Farrell earned a medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He did his pediatric residency and fellowship at Cincinnati Children's before joining the medical staff.

Among other duties, Farrell is associate director of the Department of Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children's and the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

U.S. News and World Report has ranked the department among the top five pediatric programs at medical schools in the United States.

Farrell is also medical director of Convalescent Hospital for Children and of Home Health Care.

He is on the Executive Committee of TriState Physician Hospital Organization, Cincinnati and is Education Chair: Section of Gastroenterology and Nutrition and serves on the Executive Committee, Section of Gastroenterology and Nutrition, American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Farrell has been credited as The Best Doctors in America (Woodward and White).

Scott Hamlin, chief financial officer.Scott J. Hamlin
Vice President of Finance, Corporate Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer

Scott Hamlin joined Cincinnati Children's as director of finance and was later named assistant vice president, finance.

Prior to joining Cincinnati Children's, Hamlin specialized in health care practices at Arthur Anderson & Co.

Hamlin earned a BBA in accounting, graduating cum laude, at the University of Cincinnati. He received his CPA in the state of Ohio.

Cheryl Hoying, PhD, RN, Vice President of Patient Services.Cheryl Hoying, PhD, RN, Vice President of Patient Services

Cheryl Hoying, comes to Cincinnati Children's from The Ohio State University Hospital, where she had been administrator of Patient Care Services. She was instrumental in helping OSU hospitals achieve Magnet status for nursing. She also has held senior leadership positions at Green Memorial Hospital in Xenia, Ohio and St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio.

Dr. Hoying earned her BSN and an MS in nursing administration from Wright State University in Dayton. Her doctoral degree in administration is from the University of Cincinnati.

She is a graduate of the Johnson & Johnson- Wharton Fellows Program in Management for Nurse Executives from the Wharton School and the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania.

Some of Dr. Hoying's affiliations include being a member of the American College of Health Care Executives, the American Organization of Nurse Executives, the American Nurses Association, the Nursing Leadership Academy and the Ohio Nurses Association.

Dr. Hoying has served on several nursing school advisory boards. She has been recognized as a "Mover & Shaker" in Nursing Management Magazine and she is among the Who's Who in American Nursing.

Dr. Richard Azizkhan, surgeon-in-chief.Richard G. Azizkhan, MD, Surgeon-In-Chief and Director of Pediatric Surgery

As an international advocate for children's rights and health, Dr. Richard Azizkhan has helped Cincinnati Children's develop a major international medical education exchange program with Bosnia and Croatia.

Dr. Azizkhan has made significant clinical and basic research contributions in angiogenesis and vascular malformations, lung development, airway reconstruction, solid tumors, trauma and injury prevention.

Dr. Azizkhan joined Cincinnati Children's from The Children's Hospital of Buffalo, where he served as Surgeon-in-Chief and director of the pediatric surgery training program. Before going to Buffalo, he was chief of pediatric surgery at the University of North Carolina, School of Medicine, Chapel Hill.

Dr. Azizkhan earned a medical degree at Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. His post-graduate training occurred at such prestigious institutions as the University of Virginia Medical Center and Children's Hospital Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, Boston, and Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Currently, Dr. Azizkhan serves in leadership roles on the Surgical Section of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Surgeons and American Pediatric Surgical Association.

Among many awards, Dr. Azizkhan has been selected as one of The Best Doctors in America, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Miracle Maker of the Year.

Dr. Ronald McKinley, vice president, HR.Ronald B. McKinley, PhD, Vice President of Human Resources

Ronald McKinley has nearly 25 years of experience in the field of human resources. Before joining Cincinnati Children's, he was a senior business consultant and led a human resources management consulting practice at Williams and Company Consulting, Inc., a business advisory firm in Kansas City, Missouri.

Other previous positions included vice president of human resources for APAC TeleServices, Inc., the third largest provider of outsourced customer service and sales in the U.S., and vice president of human resources for Long John Silver's, Inc.

McKinley earned a doctorate in administration and management at Walden University in Minneapolis, and a master's in business administration (MBA) in human resources management at Keller Graduate School of Management in Chicago.

Dee Ellingwood, vice president, Planning and Business Development.Dee Ellingwood,
Vice President of Planning and Business Development

Dee Ellingwood began his tenure at Cincinnati Children's in 1997. In his role, he oversees the strategic, business and long-term planning for the medical center. Business development operations include affiliations with other pediatric institutions, hospital services that directly serve community physicians in the Greater Cincinnati region, the organization's extensive network of outpatient centers and home care services in the region and the institution's relationships with local, state and federal governments. Ellingwood serves on several local and state boards serving health care and development, including the Ohio Children's Hospital Association, the Greater Cincinnati Health Council, the Uptown Consortium and the Hoxworth Blood Center.

Ellingwood joined Cincinnati Children's from Spohn Health System, a Catholic-based integrated health system in South Texas composed of six hospitals, various clinics and physician organizations, where he was vice president of network development, planning and managed care. He also served as senior partner of Phase II Consulting, a Salt Lake City-based management consulting firm serving the health care industry nationally. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics, graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Utah, and a master's degree in economics, also from the University of Utah.

Senior Vice President of Clinical Care Delivery

William Kent was appointed senior vice president, Clinical Care Delivery at Cincinnati Children's.

Kent came to Cincinnati from Baltimore, Maryland, where he was president and chief executive officer of Johns Hopkins Medical Services Corporation (JHMSC). JHMSC is a network of 18 primary care sites, with an annual volume of more than 390,000 visits. It is the largest referral source for specialty care and hospitalization at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Kent graduated from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, with a major in biology, and worked as a research assistant in the department of Microbiology at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland.

Kent earned a master's of health administration at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis. After completing an administrative fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in 1989, he moved to the Johns Hopkins Hospital as manager of Ambulatory Care Operations.

Dean Kurth, MD, Anesthesiologist-in-Chief and Director of the Department of Anesthesiology

Dr. Dean Kurth joined Cincinnati Children's from Philadelphia, where he was associate director of Anesthesia at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). In additional to being world-renowned in developing brain monitoring technologies, his special interests include neonatal anesthesia, fetal surgery anesthesia and pediatric neurosurgery anesthesia.

Dr. Kurth's research focuses on ischemic brain damage in neonates associated with congenital heart disease and surgery. Since joining Cincinnati Children's, Kurth established the Institute of Pediatric Anesthesia, the only institute in the world dedicated to research on pediatric anesthesia.

Dr. Kurth earned his medical degree at the University of Wisconsin. Following his pediatric residency at CHOP, he was an anesthesia resident at Shand's Teaching Hospital, Gainesville, Florida. His fellowships include pediatric anesthesia and pediatric cardiac anesthesia at CHOP and a National Institutes of Health fellowship in physiology at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Medicine. Most recently, Kurth earned a certificate in business administration at the University of Houston School of Business. He has been listed as Who's Who in America, Best Doctors in Cincinnati and Best Doctors in America.

Lane Donnelly, MD, Radiologist-in-Chief and Director of the Department of Radiology

Lane F. Donnelly, MD, Radiologist-in-Chief.

An award-winning radiologist, Dr. Lane Donnelly worked with a team of researchers to demonstrate that doses of radiation can be reduced without compromising information in the images they obtain. The work resulted in national standards adopted by both the radiology community and CT manufacturers that have increased patient safety for children throughout the United States. Other areas of interest include MRI in obstructive sleep apnea, pediatric chest imaging, and pediatric radiology health care delivery improvement.

Dr. Donnelly earned his medical degree at the University of Cincinnati and completed a residency in diagnostic radiology at the University of Cincinnati. He completed a fellowship in pediatric radiology at Cincinnati Children's, with additional training in MR imaging at the University of California / San Francisco and at Duke University. He then served on the Radiology staff at Cincinnati Children's, joined the staff at Duke University and returned to Cincinnati Children's as current radiologist-in-chief and director of the Department of Radiology. Under his guidance, the department is recognized as a leader in research and education in pediatric imaging -- performing one of the higher volumes of imaging procedures, receiving a high level of funding from the NIH, and having one of the largest pediatric radiology fellowship programs.

Dr. Donnelly is also a frequent contributor to the American Journal of Roentgenology, Radiology, and Pediatric Radiology, author of three books, numerous book chapters and more than 170 articles in professional journals.
