Pirouz Shamszad, MD, joined the Heart Institute in July 2012 in the section of Cardiac Intensive Care. A native of Washington, DC, he attended the George Washington University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He earned his medical degree with Distinction at the George Washington School of Medicine in 2006. Dr. Shamszad completed his residency in General Pediatrics and his fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Shamszad’s clinical focus is in Cardiac Intensive Care. His research utilizes multi-institutional databases to better describe the epidemiology and outcomes of children with congenital and acquired heart disease and for quality improvement within the cardiac intensive care unit.

Dr. Shamszad is an active member of the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society and American Academy of Pediatrics.
