Kelley Barney, MD, chose Cincinnati Children’s residency program because it was the one place where she really felt like everyone treated each other as a family. She had always felt welcome here as a medical student, and she could tell that the residents all really enjoyed working at Children’s and with each other, even when they were busy and working hard. As someone who does not know exactly what they want to do after residency, she wanted a large program and hospital that provides the opportunity to experience everything in pediatrics and see a huge diversity of patients and diseases. At the same time, despite the program’s size, Children’s never has the feel of a large program because the people genuinely care about getting to know each other.
