Dr. Carroll's most passionate interests within medicine are threefold: pediatric hematology/oncology, global health and teaching. Cincinnati Children's has been the perfect place for her to pursue interests in all three. She has had excellent mentorship within the hemonc department and is ecstatic to say that with their fantastic support and guidance, she matched into a fellowship slot at Texas Children’s to start 2013.
Dr. Carroll is also one of the global health track residents. She has traveled each year to a different destination for various reasons - rural Honduras, tertiary care center in San Juan, Puerto Rico and finally a pediatric hematology/oncology program in Leeds, England. She has learned so much and feels incredibly blessed to have the support and means to be able to experience medicine in so many different lights.
Finally, it goes without saying that she has the opportunity to teach at Cincinnati Children's. When she started as an intern, she loved teaching her medical students and she remembers admiring her amazing upper level residents during that time; it has been very exciting to advance into their roles and take on a more supportive, educating role for her interns as well. If she could pick one word to describe Cincinnati Children's, it would be FAMILY. They are one big, amazingly supportive, hug-you-when-you-fall, love-to-laugh family, and she cannot imagine doing residency anywhere else.
