Biography

Christina J. Valentine, MD, MS, RD, FAAP, is currently a neonatologist, assistant professor and principal investigator in the Division of Neonatology, Perinatal and Pulmonary Biology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Human Milk and Lactation. She has worked in the field of neonatal nutrition for the past 24 years and has published papers, textbook chapters and given lectures on maternal nutrition, human milk and neonatal nutrition.

Her graduate degree was done at the University of Florida and focused on premature infant nutrition and carnitine in the premature piglet model. Her medical school and Pediatric Residency training was at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX where she was fortunate to work on her hind milk feeding study and more basic science work in oxidative metabolites through an Alpha omega Alpha research fellowship. She completed her Neonatology Fellowship and a recent Randomized Clinical Trial with maternal supplementation at The Ohio State University / Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She currently has research funding through the Research Institute and as a co-investigator on RO1 NIH funding to investigate clinical strategies to boost maternal nutrition and DHA supplementation for improving maternal and infant immune and metabolic health to reduce prematurity related complications and works closely with her mentor Ardythe Morrow, PhD, on biomarkers and gene expression relationships at Cincinnati Children's and Lynette Rogers, PhD, at her former institution, Nationwide Children’s and The Ohio State on DHA effects on inflammation signaling events.
