Biography

Xiong received his Medical Degree from Jiangxi Medical College in China in 1987. After completing a residency program in Internal Medicine followed by a fellowship in Cardiology at the same medical school, he went on to become an attending physician in cardiology in China.

He received his PhD in cardiology at Zhangshan Hospital, Shanghai Medical University, which led to a research career in cardiomyopathy and heart failure.

While working in Kirk U. Knowlton's lab in the Division of Cardiology at University of California, San Diego, Xiong led a research effort to understand the molecular mechanisms responsible for enterovirus-induced cardiomyopathy and the role of the coxsackievirus and adenovirus receptor (CAR) in cardiovascular development.

Currently he is a pediatric fellow in the Heart Institute.
