What is a typical day for a child life specialist?
There
is no "typical" day for a
child life specialist. Every day is very different.
We meet our patients and families and assess their needs for the day.
Needs could include:
- Providing non-medical preparation to a child for a procedure or test
- Medical play with a child using dolls, stuffed animals and medical equipment
- Play activities with a child to promote normal development and growth
- Providing support to siblings who are affected by a child's illness
- Taking a family on a pre-admission hospital tour
- Providing support for grief and bereavement concerns
