Among many other contributions, Cincinnati Children's researchers have produced the Sabin oral polio vaccine, the first practical heart-lung machine, one of the key ingredients in surfactant preparation, and the rotavirus vaccine.

You will also be part of one of the largest and most technologically-advanced pediatric research institutions in the nation, with nearly 1 million square feet of research space and 450 pediatric faculty in 50 divisions. We are the second highest recipient of National Institutes of Health grant funding among comprehensive pediatric centers, with a total research budget of more than $300 million.

Qualities We're Seeking

Specific skills, knowledge and experience vary by position, but we generally seek nurses with some previous clinical experience who are:

  • Passionate about improving healthcare and finding better ways to diagnose and treat disease
  • Independent, detail-oriented and able to multi-task
  • Comfortable interacting with pediatric patients, their families and other members of the healthcare team
  • Dedicated to protecting the safety of participants in research studies and the integrity of study data

Some research nursing positions require expertise in a specific clinical area or previous clinical research experience, but others do not.

Many research professionals at Cincinnati Children's pursue additional training and certification from organizations such as the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP), The Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) or graduate coursework in clinical research, regulatory affairs and other fields. Cincinnati Children's has a generous tuition reimbursement program. We also offer registered nurses with advanced nursing knowledge and skills to advanced their careers and promotional opportunities through the Nursing Advancement Program.
