Career Opportunity: Research Associate

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is seeking a research associate to: 

  • perform routine electron microscopy audioradiography and immunogold labeling
  • work with principal investigators on acquiring and analyzing microscopy images at the light and ultrastructural levels
  • assemble data for statistical analysis and compile publication quality digital images
  • prepare scientific reports, papers, journal articles and abstracts
  • perform quantitative morphological analysis of ultrastructural alternations using image analysis
  • perform studies of biogenesis of lamellar bodies in alveolar type 2 cells
  • perform ultrastructural lung phenotype analyses using transgenic mice expressing mutant pulmonary sulfactant proteins
  • process and traffic of pulmonary surfactant protein B and C by cyro immunogold labeling and morphometry by light microscopy and by electron microscopy at the ultrastructural level
  • provide training and support in confocal microscopy with secondary responsibilities in the area of ultrastructural analyses in the field of lung development research
  • evaluate new confocal technologies and their application to ongoing projects in the division of pulmonary biology
  • evaluate image analysis software and oversee implementation of state-of-the art confocal imaging and data analysis for division personnel
  • perform sample preparation, including appropriate fixation, embedding, sectioning, staining and antibody evaluation / incubation
  • attend annual national meetings
  • review current literature to ensure that the most current / appropriate imaging technologies are employed by the division

Those interested must have an MD or PhD in cell biology, cellular biochemistry, cell physiology or biomedical engineering. Candidates must have two years of experience including: transmission electron microscopy w/ evidence of publications in cryoultramicrotomy and immunogold labeling; using and interpreting advance widefield and confocal imaging and morphometric analyses at light and ultrastructural levels.
