The Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center honors diverse individuals or groups of individuals who have made an impact on our community. In order to honor these people, we host celebrations to show our respect and admiration.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
During the third week in January, Cincinnati Children's honors Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Our Fifth Third Auditorium fills to capacity as employees gather to pay tribute to Dr. King.
The program centers on a theme which is created yearly by the employees. Every year we take nominations for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award. This prestigious award is granted to an individual who, according to their peers, exhibits:
- Sensitivity to issues of dignity
- Caring for and helping others
- Qualities of leadership, vision, patience and humility
- Service to Cincinnati Children's and / or the community
- Unbiased, open-minded attitude
- Convictions and strong inner faith
We feature a keynote speaker, as well as songs, poetry, and dancing.

Black History Month
Throughout the month of February, the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs celebrates Black African American History. Black History month is a remembrance to important people and events in African American history. Throughout the month we host various activities in regards to this celebration.
Women's History Month
The contributions women employees make to Cincinnati Children's are celebrated each year during Women's History Month. Health professionals, educators, and researchers present a variety of programs and activities throughout the month, programs that contribute to the continued professional growth and development of our employees.
Additionally, Cincinnati Children's honors those who demonstrate courage, integrity, wisdom, leadership service and respect for others throughout the year, with the annual "Outstanding Woman of Cincinnati Children's award. With this award we respectfully show our appreciation for women and their service to the institution.
National Hispanic Heritage Month
September 15 to October 15 is National Hispanic Heritage month. Hispanic Americans have strengthened our country and contributed to the spirit of America. National Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to honor these contributions and celebrate the rich cultural traditions of our Hispanic-American community. Throughout the month we host various activities in regards to this celebration.
