What positions do you have available for nursing students?
At Cincinnati Children's we understand the need for nursing students to get hands-on experience. We offer positions as nursing attendants, transporters and patient care assistants. All of these positions are open to students upon completion of a medical / surgical rotation.

The only scholarship currently made available through Cincinnati Children's is the William K. Schubert Scholarship Program. We also have tuition reimbursement and loan forgiveness programs.

How long are nursing orientations?
The Patient Services orientation at Cincinnati Children's lasts two weeks. In addition, you will orient to your specific area which is a minimum of 240 hours and longer in specialty areas. What opportunities do you have for state-tested nurse aides or patient care assistants? Do you have to be state-tested or just complete a course to work as a nurses aide? Which schools offer these programs in the Cincinnati area?
To be eligible for the patient care assistant position at Cincinnati Children's, you must either be enrolled in nursing school and have completed one medical / surgical clinical rotation or have received certification as a state tested nurse aide.
There are three schools in the Cincinnati area that offer the coursework necessary to prepare for this test:
- Cincinnati Public Schools Adult Education
STNA training is offered at Hughes High School. Contact Stephanie Sims, secretary, 513-363-0189, or Paul Ramstetter, manager, 513-363-0207. - Cincinnati State Technical and Community College
9-week program with 4 and one half hours two times a week or a two-week, full-time program 513-569-1669 - Greater Cincinnati Nurse Aide Training
75-hour basic nurse aid training course, which covers OBRA standards as required by State and Federal Law to train nurse aides. - Health Professionals Academy/Great Oaks School of Practical Nursing
75-hour nurse aide training course over four-week period from 8 am to 12 pm daily or 5 pm to 10 pm, Monday through Thursday.
