RN Residency Program Components

The RN Residency in Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children's was created just for the new nurse.

Positions are available for new graduates in the following pediatric specialties: Medical / Surgical Care, Emergency Department, Operating Room, Specialty Resource Unit (rotating unit assignments), Pediatric Intensive Care, Cardiac Intensive Care and Regional Center for Newborn Intensive Care.

The unique features of the RN Residency in Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center include:

One-On-One Clinical Training with a Team of Preceptors

Trained preceptors who are experienced, unit-based RNs will work with you to provide patient care. Your preceptors will teach you technical skills, share clinical knowledge and help you develop your clinical decision-making skills.

Customized Classroom Education

Residents participate in the classroom and skills lab, supported by a team of expert RNs, advanced practice nurses and nurse educators. A highly interactive and enriching learning experience, these lectures and hands-on training cover core concepts in pediatric nursing and focus on the caregiving experience at Cincinnati Children's.

Topical Seminars

Once every four to six weeks residents will engage in a half-day, highly interactive and enriching learning process. Residents will participate in small-group activities such as case study analysis and dialogue with advanced practice nurses and health care experts. You will be guided in the application of knowledge to advance your clinical judgment skills and ability to effectively problem solve. These sessions, supervised by a resident facilitator, also allow time for residents to share experiences, receive support and explore themes such as self-care.

Alternative Clinical Experiences Outside Home Unit

During your residency you will participate in alternative clinical experiences. You may be introduced to other departments to gain an expanded perspective of what happens to patients and their families along the continuum of care. This also is helpful in developing working relationships with staff members throughout the medical center.
