Hematology / Oncology Overview
The primary objective of the Hematology / Oncology Division at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is to improve the lives and to provide a cure for children and adolescents with cancer, blood and immune disorders.
This mission is achieved by offering compassionate, state-of-the-art clinical care to patients and their families, performance of clinical research advancing our understanding of these diseases through basic, and translational research and educating future health care providers and leaders in the field.

Dr. Franklin O. Smith, III, assumed leadership of the Hematology / Oncology Division in 2001.
The world-class faculty within the Division of Hematology / Oncology provides outstanding clinical care to patients. They conduct innovative clinical research, and in collaboration with faculty in the Division of Experimental Hematology and Cancer Biology, conduct novel translational and basic research.
Within the Hematology / Oncology Division, 32 faculty participate in clinical care and / or research. Approximately 375 individuals including nurse practitioners, nurse specialists, social workers, specialists in school intervention and Child Life, data managers, secretaries and laboratory associates support the program.
The Hematology / Oncology business unit is incorporated with the inpatient / outpatient nursing and affiliated services. Clinical research activities are supported by our Clinical Management and Research Support Core / CMRSC, with 37 clinical research associates, research nurses and medical writers.
