Anesthesia

Overview

a child

The anesthesia staff at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center provides anesthesia, pain management, organ protection and life support services related to surgery and other medical situations for premature infants to young adults.

Anesthesia is induced with powerful medications. It is often called a "strange sleep," a condition in which sensation (pain), memory and consciousness are absent, while vital signs are present. After a complete evaluation of your child, the anesthesiologist prescribes the appropriate medication and life support to make surgery and recovery as safe, comfortable, and as fast as possible.
