Benefitting the Community
Neonatologists at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center staff the maternity units of most Greater Cincinnati hospitals. Physicians from our Division of Emergency Medicine staff the emergency department at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in nearby Northern Kentucky during peak hours.
In addition, Cincinnati Children's is affiliated with the children's hospitals in Toledo and Akron, Ohio, to provide their patients a variety of tertiary services, including cardiology, cardiovascular surgery and hematology/oncology care. Cincinnati Children's also operates a network of satellites that offer outpatient surgery, subspecialty care and ancillary services.
Cincinnati Children's actively pursues opportunities that benefit the community. Outreach initiatives include:
- Every Child Succeeds, a partnership with the United Way and other community agencies that aims to reduce child abuse and neglect and improve youngsters' health by visiting nearly 1,600 mother / infant pairs repeatedly for the first three years of a child's life.
- The Center for Promotion of Lifelong Health, which measures and evaluates the effects of school-based health initiatives, with the goal of improving health through effective screenings, preventive care and education.
- Reducing injuries through educational programs about car seats, bike helmets and home safety. Through involvement in the Youth Injury Prevention Initiative, Cincinnati Safe Kids Coalition and the Injury-Free Coalition for Kids, Cincinnati Children's advocates for injury prevention.
