Training Sequence
The Triple Board Resident Training Program at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is a five-year program that combines training in Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. The training sequence for each year is:
First Year
- 11 months pediatrics
- 7 months inpatient, including one month normal newborn and one month neonatal intensive care
- 4 months outpatient, including emergency room and Division of Developmental Disabilities
1 month inpatient child psychiatry Pediatric continuity clinic (weekly) 4 weeks of vacation during outpatient pediatricsSecond Year
- 7 months adult psychiatry
- 4 months inpatient wards
- 3 months chemical dependency, psychiatric emergency room, and consult-liaison
1 month inpatient child psychiatry 4 months pediatrics 2 months inpatient pediatrics including neonatal intensive care unit and team leading 2 months outpatient pediatrics, including adolescent medicine and emergency roomPediatric continuity clinic (weekly) Supervised adult psychotherapy during 2nd half of the year (weekly) 2 weeks of vacation during pediatrics and 2 weeks during adult psychiatryThird Year
- 10 months adult psychiatry
- 8 months outpatient adult psychiatry
- 2 months adult consultation psychiatry / emergency / chemical dependency
2 months pediatrics 1 month pediatric intensive care unit 1 month pediatric outpatient child neurologyPediatric continuity clinic (weekly) Supervised adult outpatient psychotherapy (weekly) 4 weeks of vacation during outpatient adult psychiatryFourth Year
- 1 month adult psychiatry (outpatient adult neurology)
- 7 months pediatrics
- 2 months of inpatient pediatrics, including team leading and neonatal intensive care unit
- 5 months pediatric electives
4 months of child and adolescent psychiatry 1 month emergency psychiatry and adolescent chemical dependency unit 1 month consult-liaison 2 months inpatient, including weekly outpatient psychopharmacology clinicPediatric continuity clinic (every other week alternating with an optional second clinic) Supervised adult / child outpatient psychotherapy weekly (optional) 2 weeks vacation during pediatrics and 2 weeks vacation during child psychiatryFifth Year
- 12 months outpatient child and adolescent psychiatry, including psychopharmacology clinics, psychotherapy, early development and abuse, forensics, school consultation, and community consultation
- Pediatric continuity clinic (every other week alternating with second clinic)
- 4 weeks vacation during child psychiatry
