Overview

Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and the University of Cincinnati offer an accredited Allergy / Immunology Fellowship. Its purpose is to prepare physicians for academic and research careers in the field of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

Established in 1962, the fellowship is a combined program with an adult and pediatric track which features strong clinical and research training.

Goals

  • Graduate physician scientists who will be leaders and generate innovation in the field of allergy and immunology
  • Graduate physicians who will pursue an academic career

Objectives

  • Learn the basis of the clinical practice of allergy and immunology
  • Be competent in delivering clinical care and performing procedures in all areas of allergy and immunology
  • Acquire competence in conducting research in allergy and immunology; research may be clinical, basic or translational
  • Write competitive grants and compete for funding
  • Execute research protocols and publish results in excellent peer reviewed journals
  • Learn the basis for collaborative work with other researchers in related fields

Training and Electives

Clinical training in both inpatient and outpatient settings extensively covers allergy, asthma, food allergy, occupational lung disease and primary immunodeficiencies.

Active and innovative basic and clinical research is conducted in:

  • Mechanisms of inflammatory disease
  • New therapies of asthma and allergic diseases
  • Mechanisms of occupational lung disease
  • Food hypersensitivity
  • Reproductive immunology
  • Eosinophil biology
  • Eosinophil associated disorders
  • Genetics of asthma
  • Experimental murine models of allergic disease
  • Chemokines and the role of cytokines in regulation of immune responses; molecular biology
  • Transgenic and gene targeting analysis on mice
  • Immune deficiency

Program Duration

The fellowship program requires three years to complete.
