A First-Year Fellow
Jeffrey Anderson, MD, is new to Cincinnati but already he feels at home. As a first-year fellow in Pediatric Cardiology, Dr. Anderson came to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center after completing medical school at the University of Utah and residency at the University of North Carolina. He came "late" to fellowship in order to spend a year as a chief resident in Chapel Hill.
"I chose Cincinnati Children's for its size and the possibilities it presents," says Dr. Anderson. "The breadth of the division means that when I settle on a sub-specialty, there may be opportunities for me to stay." Opportunities like learning to run a cardiac intensive care unit, one of just a few in the country, or doing research in molecular genetic research thanks to an active collaboration between the divisions of Pediatric Cardiology and Molecular Cardiovascular Biology.
"The structured aspects of the fellowship program at Cincinnati Children's were also a huge draw," says Dr. Anderson. "I can be a self-directed learner, but I also appreciate the scheduled opportunities the fellowship presents with weekly conferences and focused experience in four major areas of pediatric cardiology."
As the father of young children, finding a livable city was as important as securing a top-notch position. At Cincinnati Children's, Dr. Anderson has found both. "Cincinnati is affordable and we've found great schools for our children." He adds, "We all work hard but I'm glad to have found a place where family life is valued alongside academic rigor."
