Pediatric Preventive Cardiology Fourth-Year Fellowship

The Division of Cardiology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center offers the only fourth-year fellowship in Pediatric Preventive Cardiology in the United States. The fourth-year trainee will have successfully completed three years of pediatric cardiology training and demonstrated aptitude for a career in academic medicine. Training during the fourth year will provide skills, knowledge and experience for a successful clinical, academic and research career. 

The year will include structured experiences in clinical medicine, didactic educational experiences and opportunities for productive research. Optional areas for study can be introduced to tailor the experience to the areas of interest of the fellow.

Clinics 

Two to three half-days per week are spent in:

Educational experiences include:

  • Formal didactic sessions
  • Classes at University of Cincinnati (Lifelong learning program or Master's program)
  • Echo conference 8-9 am Tue, Thurs, Fri. if desired
  • Independent study – Preventive cardiology reading list
  • Monthly activities:
    • Preventive Cardiology Journal Club
    • Statistics Journal Club
    • American Dietetic Association monthly Journal Article Reading
    • Obesity Researchers Interest Group

Research work will include:

  • Learning research techniques
  • Participating in ongoing studies
  • Learning grant writing – grant writing lecture series, intensive grant writing workshop

Goals for the year:

  • Submit a manuscript as first author
  • Develop a research question and write a training grant
