Insuring the Children Child Abuse Fellowship Program

At Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, the two-year Insuring the Children Child Abuse Fellowship Program through the Mayerson Center for Safe and Healthy Children, is designed to prepare physicians for an academic and clinical career in child abuse and forensic pediatrics.

Through a broad range of experiences, fellows develop proficiency in the areas of clinical care, research, teaching and administration. Clinical areas of study include physical child abuse, sexual child abuse, medical neglect and Pediatric Condition Falsified.

Fellows develop skills in research methodology, including study design, writing proficiency and statistical analysis. Opportunities to improve clinical and didactic teaching of residents, students and other health-care professionals are provided. Administrative skills, such as multidisciplinary team building, budget preparation and fund-raising are taught.

Faculty members have a broad range of clinical and research interests. Frank Putnam, MD, director of the Mayerson Center, and Barbara Boat, PhD, director of the Childhood Trust, are also available as mentors to fellows.

Faculty in other divisions are readily available through subspecialty electives and informal consultations and as research mentors.
