Level I Trauma Center Facilities

The Emergency Medicine Division at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center has exceptional facilities, which greatly benefit those seeking educational opportunities.

The Emergency Department and Level I Trauma Center are located in the Critical Care Tower. The Critical Care Tower also houses the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), operating suites, Radiology and a helicopter pad.

Within these facilities, care is provided for over 88,000 patient visits per year -- an average of 240 visits per day. Acuity ranges from minor pediatric illnesses to major multiple trauma, with 10-12 percent of Emergency Department visits resulting in admission into the hospital. We also provide medical control via telemetry for prehospital providers transporting children.

Emergency Services is supervised 24 hours a day by faculty and fellows from the Division of Emergency Services. Training is provided for pediatric, emergency medicine and family practice residents. Pediatric Surgery and subspecialists are available for consultation.
