Current Fellows

Our current fellows in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition come from a wide variety of backgrounds and have diverse academic and research interests.

Sharon D'Mello, MD, completed her pediatric training at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is currently a first-year fellow in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition.

Jill Dorsey, MDJill Dorsey, MD, completed her pediatric training at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina, and her first two years of fellowship at Cincinnati Children's. She is currently a third-year fellow in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition. She is studying a new marker of fat malabsorption under the mentorship of James Heubi, MD. She is enrolled in a Master's degree program in clinical research at the University of Cincinnati.
Monica Garin-Laflam, MD

Monica Garin-Laflam, MD, completed her pediatric training at the University of Miami / Jackson Memorial Medical Center, Miami, Florida, and three years of fellowship at Cincinnati Children's. She is currently spending a fourth year as an advanced research fellow, working in the laboratory of Mitchell B. Cohen, MD, studying the regulation of apoptosis and cell cycle progression in intestinal epithelial cells.

José Garza, MD, completed his pediatric training at Cincinnati Children's. He is currently a first-year fellow in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition.

Emily Kevan, MD, completed her pediatric training at the Children's Hospital of Denver, University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. She is currently a first-year fellow in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition.

Alexander Miethke, MDAlexander Miethke, MD, completed his pediatric training and first two years of fellowship at Cincinnati Children's. He is currently a third-year fellow in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition. He is studying the role of regulatory T lymphocytes in experimental biliary atresia and genotype-phenotype correlation in cholestatic diseases of infancy in the laboratory of Jorge Bezerra, MD. He receives support from the Cholestatic Liver Disease Consortium (CLiC). Dr. Miethke was recently received a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Award from the American Liver Foundation.
Katie Moyer, MD

Katie Moyer, MD, completed her pediatric training at Oregon Health and Sciences University, Portland, Oregon, and her first year of fellowship at Cincinnati Children's. She is currently a second-year fellow in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition. She is studying unique transcription profiles of known clinical forms and histological subtypes of biliary atresia by integrative genomics in the laboratory of Jorge Bezerra, MD.

Cade Nylund, MD, completed his pediatric training at the San Antonio Military Pediatric Center, San Antonio, Texas. He is currently a first-year fellow in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition.

Brad Pasternak, MD

Brad Pasternak, MD, completed his pediatric training at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York, and his first two years of fellowship at Cincinnati Children's. He is currently a third-year fellow in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition. He is studying innate immunity in experimental colitis in the laboratory of Christopher Karp, MD (Division of Molecular Immunology) and clinical predictors of steroid resistance with Ted Denson, MD. He is supported by the Pediatric Scientist Development Program, sponsored by the Association of Medical School Pediatric Department Chairs.

Scott Pentiuk, MD

Scott Pentiuk, MD, completed his pediatric training and first two years of fellowship at Cincinnati Children's. He is currently a third-year fellow in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition. He is working with Marc E. Rothenberg, MD, PhD (Division of Allergy and Clinical Immunology), to identify non-invasive markers of disease activity in patients with eosinophilic disorders. He is also enrolled in the Master's degree program in medical education through the University of Cincinnati Colleges of Medicine and Education.

Melanie Rhue, MDMelanie Rhue, MD, completed her pediatric training at the Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, North Carolina, and her first year of fellowship at Cincinnati Children's. She is currently a second-year fellow in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition. She is studying the therapeutic effect of lysosomal acid lipase expression in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis in the laboratory of Gregory Grabowski, MD, and Hong Du, PhD (Division of Human Genetics).
Chip Samson, MDCharles "Chip" Samson, MD, completed his pediatric training at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and his first year of fellowship at Cincinnati Children's. He is currently a second-year fellow in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition. He is studying  the role of GM-CSF in neutrophil function in colitis in the laboratory of Ted Denson, MD.
Bella Zeisler , MDBella Zeisler , MD, completed her pediatric training at New York University, New York, New York, and her first year of fellowship at Cincinnati Children's. She is currently a second-year fellow in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition. She is studying epithelial differentiation in experimental colitis in the laboratory of Noah Shroyer, PhD.
