Application, Interview and Acceptance

If you are interested in applying for a fellowship in Neonatology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, please read this information carefully.

Application and Interview Process

Applicants must have completed the PL-3 year or have been approved for fast-tracking by the American Board of Pediatrics for consideration.

Applicants must have the necessary credentials to obtain an Ohio State Medical Board license and Cincinnati Children's medical staff privileges.

Application Acceptance

The Division of Neonatology participates in the ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service) match program.  To apply online for the Neonatal-Perinatal Fellowship Training Program, visit the Association of American Medical College's ERAS web site.

The appointment is for three years, and begins on July 1st of each year.

The University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati Children's, and the Division of Neonatology are committed to the recruitment, training and success of underrepresented minorities and women. Applications from such candidates are particularly encouraged.

Please include the following with your application (through ERAS):

  • three letters of recommendation (one letter should be from your residency training program, and one letter should be from a neonatologist)
  • a current curriculum vitae
  • personal statement
  • a wallet size color photograph
  • USMLE transcript (transmitted by the NBME)
  • ECFMG status report (for International Medical Graduates only).

Interviews

Following application review, applicants that are a good match for our program will be contacted to set up an interview. The Division of Neonatology provides candidates with accomodations in Cincinnati and meal reimbursement.

The interview day involves several of the faculty and fellows of the division. If the candidate has a specific research interest, this should be conveyed at the time of scheduling and every effort will be made to include faculty in that area during the visit. Faculty areas of interest can be reviewed at the Section of Neonatology, Pulmonary and Perinatal Biology website.

Deadlines

We generally match four qualified trainees per year. Dates and deadlines for applications are those established by ERAS. The deadline to apply is May 31. Applications can be submitted beginning November 15 of the prior year.
