Specialization
The advanced training program for pediatric specialization at Cincinnati Children's also includes an interdisciplinary core curriculum training involving the evaluation of psycho-social aspects of life-threatening and chronic diseases as they affect the patient and the family in counseling both the acutely and chronically ill patients and their families. This is a series of lectures presented by the University-affiliated Cincinnati Center for Developmental Disorders for all subspecialty fellows at Cincinnati Children's.
The subspecialty fellow in pediatric nephrology receives instruction and experience in the operational aspects of a pediatric nephrology service, including the dialysis facility at Cincinnati Children's. Additionally, over the three years, the subspecialty fellows will learn about:
- staffing needs,
- unit management,
- preparation of grant proposals,
- quality improvement programs,
- appropriate communications with the referring physicians, and
- planning for program development.
An annual institution-sponsored educational program for fellows and residents covers six topics to address the topic of professionalism. The program includes
